Currently the industrial area of Kraaifontein is geographically one of the smallest precincts catering for Western Cape warehouses, factories and distribution centres. This node, however, will form part of the strategic vision of future industrial and spatial planning, as Cape Town expands its industrial footprint into the next 30-year development curve. It is anticipated to follow the trend of what was first seen with the emergence of Epping around 1945, followed by Parow in the 1970’s and the R300 Stikland and Brackengate precinct from around 1995 onwards till present.

Located along the N1 highway leading to Gauteng and beyond, the planned developments in this area will see new industrial facilities and other real estate developments projected within 5 – 10 years. Along with these developments, will follow the new infrastructure developments of SANRAL, which will see an entire upgrade of the N1 highway together with various interchanges to improve the flow of heavy duty trucks and other traffic into and out of these areas.

Expanding Cape Town into the Western Cape Winelands towards Paarl without disturbing the pride of the Cape, the planning of these developments is similar as seen all over Europe. These kinds of industrial areas cater for distribution warehousing and large-scale production factories located along major highways to avoid heavy duty vehicles from entering residential nodes but reach their destination in the shortest possible time and avoid traffic congestion.
